µPD7105x compliant PC Peripheral Products
Renesas Electronics is now offering RoHS-compliant replacement products compatible with the well-known µPD7105x PC peripheral devices.
µPD71051 <=> 8251 - Serial Control Unit
µPD71054 <=> 8254 - Programmable Timer Unit
µPD71055 <=> 8255 - Parallel Interface Unit
µPD71059 <=> 8259 - Interrupt Control Unit
Following the phase-out of the popular µPD7105x PC peripheral standard products, Renesas Electronics can offer replacements based upon state-of-the-art, low-cost CMOS-N5 Gate Array ASIC technology. The replacement products will use RoHS-compliant, pin-compatible 44-pin QFP packages.
The underlying business model is very simple, just requiring the customer to verify the applicability of the replacement product (ie. a Gate Array ASIC) by testing an equivalent prototype chip within his system. After the successful in-system test, the customer confirms the applicability and releases production.
